IP rights watch:
avoid surprises

As an entrepreneur, you are constantly innovating and building your brand. But do you also keep track of what your competitors are doing in the IP field? Professional monitoring of patents and trademarks keeps you informed and prevents costly surprises.

Advantage through timely information

A watch service continuously monitors new publications of patent applications and trademark registrations within a certain field, geographical area and/or within certain classes. This allows you to see immediately when a competitor applies for a patent on a technology that is close to your own developments, or registers a trademark that is suspiciously similar to yours. This early detection is crucial: you can take timely action by filing observations or opposition.

Strategic advantage

Surveillance also gives you strategic insight. You see where the market is moving, what technologies your competitors are developing, and can adjust your own IP strategy accordingly. This helps you make better decisions about where to apply for protection yourself.

V.O. thinks with you

V.O. Patents & Trademarks offers customized patent and trademark watches, tailored as much as possible to your situation.

For patent searches, we will work with you to develop a search strategy appropriate to your case. This can be based on technical keywords, IPC classifications, names of competing applicants or inventors, specific jurisdictions, or a combination thereof. Targeted watches can also be set up for specific pending third-party application processes, alerting you to a change or new registration in a timely manner.

The frequency of this patent reporting is up to you. Generally, one chooses monthly reporting for fast-moving sectors or large portfolios, quarterly for medium-sized cases, or semi-annually for smaller numbers and slower proceedings.

We can also tailor the detail level of reporting to your needs. Would you like to receive only an overview of new publications and amendments? Or rather a detailed analysis with concrete advice on possible opposition or other follow-up steps? Intermediate forms are also possible.

Trademark monitoring

Customization is also possible for trademark watches. Monitoring usually takes place in three classes, but more extensive monitoring is also possible. The monitoring usually covers one of the following four regions: Benelux, EU, EU plus 5 countries of your choice, and worldwide.

In terms of the level of detail in the report, one of two service levels generally fits the bill adequately:

  • ‘Basic' resulting in a report without our reviews; and
  • ‘Advised’ where we indicate which trademark applications we believe deserve your attention.
